What you see – Cool breeze wafts by in spite of the blazing temperatures at Vagator Beach in Goa. The view from the rocks of

the rolling sea waves hitting against them is a delight. A panoramic view of the horizon awaits ahead. Eyes follow the tiny silhouettes of ships sailing at a distance till they disappear. In the sky, flocks of birds fly in a string painting a pretty picture.
Vagator beach has benches as well to allow you to take in these views in comfort. These are located at the edge of a cliff so that you enjoy an elevated view of the beach.
What you get – Apart from its beautiful views, Vagator beach in Goa is popular for its water rides. A ride on the speed boat can truly bring out the child in you.
The popular Chapora Fort at the beach is great for adventurous people who’d prefer to climb their way up a steep hilly terrain. And for those who manage to get to the top, the view from the fort is simply marvelous. Those who have watched the Bollywood movie, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ will recollect this location in one of the shots where the three protagonists gaze at the ship at a distance.
The Chapora fort (pronounced as Shah Pura or town of the Shah) was built by Adil Shah of Bijapur as a border watch post during the 17th century. Later it came under the Portuguese rule and was rebuilt.

Vagator beach also has a beautiful carving of the face of Lord Shiva on one of the rocks by an unknown sculptor. If you are lucky, you might just spot it.
Our verdict - Vagator beach has very calm and tranquil surroundings. It’s de-stressing and not very crowded except on weekends. Even if you don’t feel like visiting the fort or indulging in sport rides, you can while away your time by just staring into the never-ending expanse of water. There are not many food joints around in case you want to grab a bite. It is clean and safe though you won't find any life-guards present. Parking space is available. Look out for the bumpy turn to the beach just as you enter.
